Merriam Webster defines Faith as:  “Belief and trust in and loyalty to God”;

“firm belief in something for which there is no proof”, and simply,

“complete trust”.

 

To me that last definition really hits home. COMPLETE TRUST.  Faith is complete trust in God the Father. 

 

You see, Faith for me is not just a belief, it’s also an act. The act of showing God you truly believe He is who He says He is. 

 

The Bible says Faith without Works is dead, and I’ve really taken that to heart. It has been my experience that in order to reach the checkpoints of destiny in life, you have to take a step into the unknown. 

 

To illustrate, when my family and I felt the call of the Lord to move to Tennessee from northern Virginia, we had to take a step. The way the housing market was at the time allowed no wiggle room for contingencies.* Houses were being snatched up sight-unseen with cold hard cash, well-over the asking price. As a family not quite in that financial position, we decided to take a step of faith because we believed. 

 

Not knowing where we were going to live, we sold our house, packed up our belongings, and headed out west from Virginia in our little 27-foot camper trailer. Three generations and a dog. To the natural way of thinking it made little sense. We had no reason to move other than God’s word. We went because God said. Like Abraham of old, we chose to believe God. For over three months we lived in and out of campgrounds searching for a place to live that would accommodate our three generation family. At last, with finances expiring, we finally found the right place and settled in. 

 

Today we are so happy to live where we live. It has brought new life to our family. We know that it was the hand of God that got us here. We are so blessed! 

 

My point here, if not clear already, is that had we not taken that step of faith to just go, with no knowledge of potential living arrangements or what our life would be like, we would not have found such a perfect home for us in Middle Tennessee.  It was the faith and courage to act on such a thing that brought us our miracle. That’s the proof!

 

Through all this, we learned that Faith is hard. But also that Jesus is worth it!

 

Why? Well, Faith is what gets us up in the morning. It’s what keeps us focused, and on track. It’s what keeps us going when it seems we cannot go another step. I don’t know where we’d be without it.

 

Faith is the strength to stop obsessing over our worldly worries. It’s kicking back and having some fun after the work day knowing God’s got it! 

 

After all, this world isn’t just death and taxes. It is SO much more than that! It’s laughing with your friend over a joke, it’s telling stories, eating good food, exploring God’s beautiful creation….😊

 

Faith is what makes it all work.
